Candidiasis (yeast infection – a kind of fungal infection): “Both men and women can be infected,” says Dr Pang. In women the infection may also involve the vagina, causing a profuse cheese-like discharge associated with burning or an intense itch. In men, it may be associated with infection of the glans penis which may be the first sign of diabetes mellitus.

Same after dinner, and the same before bed. At bedtime – I take 2 liquid gel Benadryls for anti -itch sleep. Neutropenia is a marked decrease in the number of neutrophils, neutrophils being a type of white blood cell (specifically a form of granulocyte) filled with neutrally-staining granules, tiny sacs of enzymes that help the cell to kill and digest microorganisms it has engulfed by phagocytosis.

If your jock itch is very mild or you’ve caught it early on, you might be able to treat it by washing the affected area twice a day withan antifungal shampoo or soap like Selsun Blue or the delightfully-named Funga Soap.

Naftifine is the generic name of an antifungal cream used to treat jock itch. Drugs.com points out that the way naftifine works is not fully understood but it is presumed to inhibit the production of an enzyme that allows the fungus to live. This cream should be used only for as long as directed. If the infection does not clear up after four weeks, a prescription medication may be necessary.

Many antifungal medications are available without prescription. They come in cream, liquid spray, ointment, and powder forms. Some people may develop an allergic reaction to the medication, so stop using them if your rash seems worse.

You can usually self-diagnose jock itch by how your skin looks. If you feel the need to check in with your health care provider or dermatologist, call to make an appointment. Tests are usually not necessary. However, you may need an office test called a KOH exam or a skin culture. Don’t worry — these tests are very simple and relatively painless, but they may help better identify the severity and diagnosis.

This skin condition is called “jock itch” because it commonly occurs in male athletes. However, it also affects people who are overweight, diabetic, or have a weakened immune system. Young, healthy individuals and women may also be affected.

This is one more effective cream available. If you are suffering from itch and rashes, you will wonder what cream to use for jock itch. Here is the best way. Apply this for a week. You can expect relief. Apply the cream and leave it open for some time. That would reduce the infection to a great extent. The best itch cream with no side effects.

So whilst it’s not caused by heat, it is a type of rash that’s more prominent in the hotter months. It’s also more prominent in people who might work in hot environments and people who are working, you know, particularly outdoors and also perhaps in sports people, obviously their body’s heating up and might be doing a lot of running around and sweating in the groin area.

UHHH DUHH. OBVIOUSLY! What planet are you from?? First, OBVIOUSLY you have to apply it to the affected area! Actually no, apply it to your toes, and that will SURELY cure the jock itch on your GROIN area. Common sense is clearly absent from your brain. Good luck in life.

If your jock itch is really bad, or is unresponsive to treatment, or you think it might be be something else like an STD, go to the doctor or get tested. No amount of Tinactin is going to clear up a raging bout of gonorrhea.

I tried tea tree oil and it kept burning a layer of skin off, leaving the area raw and itchy. Then I tried TEA TREE CREAM, it’s only a few pounds a tube and worked pretty much instantly jock itch is gone a few days later and I’m going to keep using it.

Yes. Jock itch can spread from one person to another by skin-to-skin contact, especially in warm, damp environments. It can also spread to other areas of the body if someone touches the affected area and touches other body parts. Jock itch often spreads from a fungal infection on the feet, known as athlete’s foot.

Use your own towel in the gym: Most gyms provide clean towels that are frequently washed. So make sure you pick a fresh towel after a workout, and avoid sharing towels with your gym buddy. Wear a pair of slippers in the communal bathroom. Fungus on the floor may cause an infection of the feet that can spread to the groin.

I’ve have read these tips and am shocked, haven’t tried them yet but I’m going to. I have seen 2 doctors who both told me that it couldn’t be cured,,,I am a woman, and have been suffering with this for almost 2 yrs, I can’t wear shorts or a bathing suit,, this itch and spreading all over the crease of my upper thigh and genitals, to my behind, and all the doctor gave me was some powder to ease the symptoms, short time relief, so as a woman I am mortified at the way it looks and affects me. Thank you for all the ideas, I will let y’all know how they work.

Oil of Oregano is one the most powerful anti bacterial anti fungal herbal supplements on the market, you will need to dilute this and would suggest the Tea tree cream . You will see results but be prepared to feel several minutes of extreme discomfort. I would wash after a few hours of application it will peel the skin. This is extremely powerful but may need follow up treatments according to your severity. Good Luck !

Moisture is the critical factor with jock itch because it allows fungi to thrive. Since people wear clothing for most of the day, the groin is usually moist and dark, creating a perfect breeding ground for the microscopic fungi that live on the skin to multiply and cause trouble. People who exercise regularly and wear an athletic supporter (jock strap) are susceptible to jock itch if they don’t bathe after exercise or don’t wash the undergarments they wear for exercise before working out again.

I think that might be how I got it so bag I have never had it before and it’s been brutal month such an intense burn tingle itching feeling really makes a guy wanna go crazy but I usually use a 2 almost full caps for my clothes and ask ed my mom she said that’s way 2 much so basically I’m burning my balls of with detergent I bought some scent less clear stuff gonna try it this can cause jock itch ? I wondered how I got this because I don’t sweat a lot and I usually shower 2 times a day and clean well! Hope this solves my prob !

Some people are simply more prone to developing jock itch because of their overall health, activity, anatomy, possible altered immune status, exposure history, and other predisposing skin conditions like eczema. People with athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) are more prone to developing jock itch.

Oh yeah. It’ll work… for a minute. What you don’t realize is that REAL jock itch is VERY hard to get rid of. You can treat that one area but what about those invisible mycelium strands that you can’t see that the fungus has spider-webbed all over you so that it can survive? The seeable patch is just the main hive. Now, are you ready for a full bath in that alcohol. Get your snorkel ready because you need to be FULLY submerged. I think the government released this on the public when they bought stock in tolnaftate…

Do not use on children under two years of age unless directed by a physician. Avoid contact with the eyes. If irritation occurs or if there is no improvement within 2 weeks, discontinue use and consult a physician. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.

Tea tree oil is great way to treat jock itch because it has powerful antifungal qualities and is a natural antiseptic and germicide that helps reduce itchiness and inflammation of the skin. Studies show that teat tree oil, tested at different various concentrations, definitely possesses antifungal activity, naturally working to kill jock itch fungus. (11)

They work well, although I have chronic jock itch (I don’t really think it’s acute). When I put on the Terrasil it’s almost impossible not to scratch some; but I do like the product and once it’s on it pretty much controls the itch(like right now for instance.

Doctors can easily diagnose most cases of jock itch just by looking the rash. However, in some cases where the diagnosis is not as clear cut, a doctor may send a sample of the infected skin to a laboratory for closer examination.

I’m gonna try coconut oil and tea tree oil. I heard it works like a bomb. Keep scratching to a minimum as it spreads the jock and makes it really worst. Try and keep the area dry. It seems to keep the itch away.??

Using most jock itch products is not difficult: just smear the stuff on the affected area a once or twice a day (as directed). However, you can increase the effectiveness by making sure you read the directions and following a few simple guidelines:

The rash then spreads outward in a ring-like pattern. As the rash spreads, the center of the rash will often get somewhat better. The rash often develops a well-defined, red border that may include a line of blisters.

Jock itch is considered to be mildly contagious. Usually, it requires direct person-to-person contact or wearing the clothing of someone who has the skin disease. It is mildly contagious because if the individual who becomes associated with a person with jock itch does not provide a similar warm, moist environment that supports the growth of fungi, the uninfected individual may not get the disease.

Avoid eating refined carbohydrates, sugar and food items that contain yeasts. Avoid alcohol because it eventually converts to sugar. Your diet must contain a lot of raw fruits and vegetables. Avoid greasy, fried and processed foods.

Studies published in Medical Mycology report that lavender oil is highly effective and fighting infection and, therefore, may reduce fungal progression and the spread of infection in host tissues. (10)

I have asked about jock itch before and you were (I think it was you) very informative. I have just gone through a bunch of the articles on the site again, but I would still like to ask a question if you don’t mind.

I’ve been suffering with jock itch since may! The discomfort is unbareable at times. I’ve been to the doctor and spent a lot of money on creams, nothing is doing the trick. I will try the garlic remedy. Hopefully it works.

Most ringworm infections of the skin, such as jock itch, can be treated at home with antifungal creams and powders you can buy without a prescription. But have your doctor look at any infection that does not go away, is severe, or comes back. To treat jock itch, follow these steps:

Items needed 1. Hairdryer 2. Selsun Blue shampoo 3. Borax – the 20 mules 4. ORGANIC Apple Cider Vinegar – Braggs is one of the brand names. 5. Benadryl – I prefer the liquids – anti itch while sleeping.

As the common name for this condition implies, it causes itching or a burning sensation in the groin area, thigh skin folds or anus. It may involve the inner thighs and genital areas, as well as extending back to the perineum and perianal areas.

your comment was just what I was looking for, as I also make Homemade Natural Products at local Farmer’s Markets and Natural Grocery stores. My husband suffers from Jock Itch, and I have been helping him with it, but wanted to make something like a paste or cream that would be a combiation of all of them, try it on him, and add it to my stock to help others. Your description on how you make it doesn’t include measurements; could you possibly tell me how much of each ingredient? Note: I have Bentonite Clay, Zinc Oxide, Beeswax, Raw Honey, Witch Hazel, Tea Tree Oil, Apple Cider Vinegar and Vitamin E. Other things that you mentioned, I don’t have and would like to know if those would be necessary to make the paste that you spoke of.

However, it is more common in men. Other factors that increase the risk of developing this problem are being overweight, wearing tight underwear, excessive sweating and having a weakened immune system.

See a doctor as soon as possible if you develop any of the following symptoms other than the rash: fever, weakness, vomiting, rapid spread of the rash (especially to the trunk), swollen glands, lumps in the groin area, drainage of pus, open sores or ulcers, boils, rash that involves your penis or vaginal area, or difficulty urinating.

Jock itch can be a socially embarrassing condition and it recommended to treat at the first sign of the symptoms. It is vital to treat jock itch early before it spreads to other parts of the body. Here are some options for treating that uncomfortable itch.

Residual skin discoloration in the groin may persist for weeks to months after more severe forms of jock itch clear. Because it is in an area that is not generally visible, it does not usually require treatment. Eventually, the skin discoloration will return to a more natural color.

Although jock itch is not a serious problem, a doctor should look at any persistent skin rash that develops, in order to rule out other serious conditions. A person with jock itch should also see a doctor if over-the-counter treatments do not work, or if the rash worsens.

The best way to treat itch is through this cream. It is available everywhere. It is the best antifungal cream for jock itch in India. For mild infections use this cream twice a day for 15 days. It is easily curable. For persistent itches contact your doctor. Keep the genital areas dry and clean. Keep it free of sweat. Avoid using unhygienic toilets. This is the best way to treat the infection.

You can also apply at night before you go to bed and leave on overnight. Another option is to try increasing your garlic intake orally. You can do this by simply eating more raw garlic in your favorite dishes or taking garlic capsules that you make yourself or buy at your local health food store.

Apply over-the-counter anti-fungal creams or powders recommended for jock itch. Follow the regimen outlined in the accompanying instructions. Be careful not to over-treat the area, as this can lead to further irritation.

Keep the skin clean and dry in the groin area. When cleaning the area, dry with a clean towel. It’s important that you don’t use the same towel on the rest of your body. Use a separate, clean towel instead.

Do not use antifungal creams recommended specifically for athlete’s foot. They may be too harsh for the groin. In some cases, over-the-counter antifungal creams may not work or effectively treat the rash. In these cases, your doctor can prescribe a stronger antifungal cream.

Rubbing alcohol is another effective home remedy for jock itch because it kills the fungus causing the infection. Plus, being a drying agent, it helps keep the affected area dry; fungi thrive warm, moist environments.

You can increase the benefit of any of these by using an anti-fungal soap when showering (we rated Defense Soap as the best in this epic review). Also remember that consistency is key. No product will kill that itch if you don’t use it regularly for the recommended time period so stick to the instructions and smash your jock itch for good!

Sooth and anti-itch type creams can be used. They’re necessarily not a cure but may ease the symptoms a little bit. Most people find that when they are applying an anti-fungal cream a couple of times a day that that will, if you like, cover both bases – so it’s treating the condition and also providing some soothing at the same time.

Occasionally, a small skin biopsy may be used to help the doctor confirm the diagnosis. Rarely, a skin biopsy (surgically taking a small piece of skin using local numbing medicine) that is examined under a microscope may be necessary in atypical or widespread cases. Sometimes skin biopsies help to exclude other possible diagnoses. A skin swab or culture may be taken and sent to the lab to detect an infectious cause of the jock itch. A bacterial culture may be useful to detect bacteria, such as Staphylococcus.

The fungus that causes jock itch thrives in warm, moist areas and occurs mostly in adult men and teenage boys. It can be triggered by friction from clothes and prolonged wetness in the groin area, such as from sweating. Is jock itch contagious? Technically yes, as it can be passed from one person to the next by direct skin-to-skin contact or contact with unwashed clothing, such as bathing suits, that have been touched or shared. If you have athlete’s foot, it can even be passed by touching your own feet or socks, then touching your groin area.

If your jock itch is very mild or you’ve caught it early on, you might be able to treat it by washing the affected area twice a day withan antifungal shampoo or soap like Selsun Blue or the delightfully-named Funga Soap.

Another option is to apply a mixture of equal parts of white vinegar and coconut oil on the affected skin. Leave it on for a few hours before washing it off. Do this twice daily until you get rid of the problem.

My Mother had jock itch for 14 yrs. The Doctor tried all kinds of treatments and nothing helped. Terrasil gave her almost immediate relief. The itching is totally gone and she thinks the jock itch may actually be cured, She wants to wait a little longer and then stop the Terrasiland see if the jock itch is gone.

The best creams for Jock Itch can certainly help the medical condition go away quicker. This condition is also known as Tinea Cruris, gym itch or fungal infection, and is definitely a condition that you need to treat with the best creams or powders. This fungal infection is most common in males that exercise or play sports, and the symptoms are a red rash, itching and burning. Tinea Cruris can be very discomforting and if you don’t get the proper treatment it can take months for the rash to go away. Here I will offer the best products to use for it and some tips for cures.

Avoid eating refined carbohydrates, sugar and food items that contain yeasts. Avoid alcohol because it eventually converts to sugar. Your diet must contain a lot of raw fruits and vegetables. Avoid greasy, fried and processed foods.

After reading everyone’s posts I just had to share my experience. I have actually been to a Nurse Practitioner and have a diagnosis of fungal jock itch. She prescribed both fluconazole (diflucan) oral and ketoconazole 2% topical cream. I am an RN myself and I have been trying to self treat for nearly 2 months. I did not realize I had jock itch, I thought that I had an external yeast (candida) infection and thought for sure that I could treat it myself. Boy, was I wrong. For those of you who do not have insurance and who have been trying home remedies with no success, there is often times the option of going to your local health department for an STD exam (usually free). Its always good to get checked and at that point the practitioner can prescribe you an anti-fungal if in fact you do have jock itch. I noticed a comment or two that concerned me that some people may need to be checked for other infections according to the symptoms they listed anyway. Play it safe and get checked, that is, unless you have never ever had sexual contact of any sort with anyone else. I am on day two of using the prescriptions that my NP gave me. The diflucan is a one time dose that I will repeat in 3 days. The cream is to be applied once a day. I am also going to use a mixture of rubbing alcohol with lavender and tea tree essential oils and spray it on from a tiny spray bottle. I believe that taking the bath in 1 cup of bleach per tub of water could be beneficial as well. I am not saying the other things will not work, but it’s important to be careful not to use too many treatments at once. My practitioner strictly demanded that I not shave the affected area until it is all cleared up. She said to continue to use the cream for another week after all symptoms are gone as well. I definitely agree with those who suggested eliminating excess sugars from the diet as well. In extreme cases when all else fails with the itch, the Vicks vapor rub gel/cream has worked for my itch. It has some essential oils in it that I attribute that to. Again, be careful using too many treatments all at once. Oh yeah, I almost forgot…..Ice packs for itch as well, just be sure to keep the skin dry. Best luck to all. (By the way, I am female. This is not just a male thing).

Jock itch is an annoying and itchy rash common in people who sweat a lot, such as athletes. The rash is often found in the genital, buttock, and thigh regions. Although uncomfortable, jock itch is not serious and can be treated and prevented very easily.

I did so, but have since then had re-occurence like three or four times. Last night I felt this stupid itch again, and looked again, and yep, it’s back! One thing that I have been doing for the last 3 odd months, is to spray my feet every morning with Mycota foot spray to make sure that it doesn’t spread from my feet as I go to gym around 3-4 times a week. Also, I use Johnson & Johnson’s Antibacterial powder all over my “lies” (afrikaans) area to help keep it dry.

However, because the product is rather strong, people with more sensitive skin types might find that it causes some side-effects. Regardless, Pro-Ex Antifungal Cream Clotrimazole 1% is definitely a good choice for someone who wants a product that will provide positive outcomes especially if milder options have previously failed.

Jock itch is the popular name given to an itchy rash in the groin that commonly involves the inner thighs and adjacent skin, including the scrotum in males. The medical name for rash in the creases of overlapping skin is “intertrigo.” Jock itch is associated with sweating, friction/abrasion, occlusive clothing, and the direct rubbing of skin on skin. The rash may affect not only the groin, but it can involve any areas of skin that overlap, including around the anus and in the skin folds of obese individuals. Jock itch affects men and occasionally women worldwide.

After taking a careful case history, your physician will scrape off scales or pustules and examine them under a microscope. A more careful hygienic regimen and/or a powerful oral antifungal medication may be recommended.

Aight, I just got this jock itch about 2 months ago and i was worried and didn’t know what to do, until I found this page. It was bad on my foreskin so I tried the hand sanitizer, it worked but burnt a lot but not that long just gotta start making it go away. Can anyone help me make it go away and make sure it doesn’t come back? Its on my balls too, and its really bad, sometimes when I’m in class it itches and I just feel like ripping my sack off.

Talk to your doctor. It is important to talk to your doctor if the scaly redness doesn’t go away within a couple of weeks, if it starts getting worse, or if you notice that it’s turned yellow and oozes. Your doctor can offer you a couple of options:

Credit: Amazon.comA number have people have told me over the years that combining with a hydrocortizone cream is a good bet. This is because the hydrocortizone cream can relieve the itching sensation faster than the anti-fungal cream. This cream is clinically proven to moisturize for 24 hours.

Wearing tight undergarments or athletic supporters, or synthetic clothing increases your risk of picking up infection. This is particularly worrying if you remain in these clothes for extended periods and sweat a lot.

I had the same symptoms you have all described for about 4 months, 3 doctors and many tubes of antifungals. I urge everyone to examine how your clothes are being laundered. My wife was putting in a full cap of detergent and fabric softener, but the instructions on the bottles said to only put about a half inch from the cap bottom. With the inventions of HD washing machines and concentrated detergent, etc. it’s easy to make that mistake. I was basically sitting in soap and fabric softener all day.

Jock itch and most other common fungal infections are caused by a group of fungi called dermatophytes. These fungi are present in the environment around us at all times and are in fact present on your skin under normal circumstances as well. So as long as your skin remains clean and dry there is little to no chance of a jock itch rash or any other fungal infection setting in. Areas of the skin that remain moist and damp are naturally a lot more susceptible to infections as the fungi thrive in such environments.

Once I was confined to a hot jail cell for months. It eventually got so bad that my skin oozed and was almost liquid. I couldn’t even walk. I’m ready to blow my brains out this is so bad… The over the counter stuff does not work for me. Once a doctor gave me pills for it. Nothing has ever worked…

Okay, how do you catch it? It is a fungus, it’s a very ubiquitous fungus, so it’s something that is in the atmosphere, in fact there are some theories that it can live quietly on the body just in the normal course of events but can multiply given the right circumstances. So again, heat and sweating creates a warm, moist environment that does make it a little bit easier for the fungus to multiply.

I am broke out with this in my private area and spot on my wrist and on my leg close to my knee why do I have it on open spots like my leg and wrist if its cause from closed moist areas im wantin to know all there is bout wth this is and how to get rid of it and not get it again please help anyone feel free to comment what u know

Jock itch is a highly contagious skin infection also called tinea cruris, caused by various types of fungus, similar to those that cause athlete’s foot. It infects the surrounding areas of the groin and inner thighs.

Lavender oil benefits the skin as well because it’s a great antiseptic that contains antifungal properties. It’s very helpful in rapidly healing wounds and may aid in preventing the formation of scar tissue. And because it’s mild, it is typically safe to use on children.

Jock itch is a fungal skin infection that is sometimes also referred to as ringworm of the groin. Damp conditions of the nether region makes it susceptible for the fungal growth that causes jock itch.

You should use the medicine as long as is recommended, even if the rash seems to be getting better. If not, the infection can come back. Some people regularly use medicated powders and sprays to prevent this from happening.

Miconazole is a cream available over-the-counter and can relieve the symptoms of jock itch infection, including itching, scaling or burning. The ingredients in the creme kill the fungus. Drugs.com explains that the cream weakens the cell membrane of the fungus, which leads to its death. The cell membrane is what holds the cell together and allows it to function. Like other over-the-counter antifungal creams, miconazole should be used as directed. If the infection does not disappear after four weeks, medical treatment is necessary.

Jock itch is contagious and is spread either by direct skin contact or by touching contaminated items like clothing or towels. The fungal spores that cause jock itch are very resilient. They can survive for months on your skin or on contaminated items before they get transmitted. The fungus grows best in the warm, moist places, such as the area around your groin. Consequently, jock itch is most common in people who sweat a lot, such as athletes or overweight people. It can also be triggered by friction from your clothing.

If the cream doesn’t work, Fluconozole 150mg as a single dose orally is the treatment but it is a schedule H drug and has to be prescribed by a doctor. Don’t take this drug on your own, get prescribed.

Conventional treatment includes using powder sprays, often containing the antifungal clotrimazole. Clotrimazole is also the primary antifungal and so-called “active ingredient” present in the brand Lotrimin®. Lotrimin® is available in both cream and powder spray form. The most common side effects of clotrimazole include redness, irritation, burning, stinging, swelling, tenderness, pimple-like bumps or flaking of the treated skin. Jock itch is a common fungal infection that creates red, itchy rashes around people’s genitals, buttocks, and inner thighs. Though uncomfortable, jock itch is rarely a serious problem and can be cured using simple home remedies.

With its extra strong formula, Pro-Ex Antifungal Cream Clotrimazole 1% is the cream you should turn to for more severe cases of jock itch. While it does contain just the same amount of clotrimazole as the previous product, it’s specially formulated with several other inactive ingredients to address more serious cases of jock itch irritation.

I had the itch for many years and finally saw a suggestion to rub banana peel on your skin. Sounded weird but I tried it and it worked! Easy and cheap. Rub the inside of the peel on the affected area once or twice daily at first till the bulk of the problem has subsided. Then once or twice a week on persistent spots will keep the itch on the run. Feels so good not to itch I sometimes forget it for days at a time, then a little spot will remind me, so I have a banana for and then put the peels to work wherever it itches. Only a very slight burning sensation at first and then none at all from then on. Kiss your potions goodbye and give the monkey fruit a try. Worked for me!

Classic jock itch affects the inner thighs, groin, and lower buttocks, not the genitalia themselves. If the scrotum is inflamed, it’s probably due to a different yeast condition called candidiasis, and a physician should be consulted.

As far as the application goes, all you have to do is dip a finger into the jar and spread away. Despite being a salve, it goes on clean and non-greasy. It doesn’t produce any foul odors, and won’t stain your girlfriend’s high thread count sheets. You can also expect a small amount to do a lot! This duo is perfect for a guy who wants the Swiss army knife of anti-fungals. It’ll cost you a lot more than the other options, but it also has a lot more applications.

Jock itch can usually be diagnosed based on the appearance and location of the rash. However, other skin problems may look similar to jock itch. If you are not certain of the diagnosis, contact your doctor.

While all of these medications can effectively treat jock itch, terbinafine may lead to a more rapid cure than some of the others. It is also considerably more expensive than most of the medications in the above list. Tolnaftate and undecyclenic acid may be less effective than some of the other medications listed, but as generics, they are generally among the least expensive treatments available. Creams are usually applied twice daily for 2-4 weeks. Follow the instructions given on the package or by your pharmacist or physician.

Most cases of jock itch are not contagious; however cases caused by an infection may be transmitted through skin or sexual contact. Sharing of apparels, locker room towels and other public amenities (which may be infected) can cause jock itch rash. Fungal jock itch also transmits through close skin contact.

Use a cotton ball to apply the amber Listerine mouthwash on the affected skin and leave it on until it dries completely. Initially it will hurt, but you will soon get relief from the soreness and inflammation.

Thanks for all the recommendations, I have almost scratched by junk off at times, have had this issue for over two years !, doctors prescriptions were useless, sprayed cologne liberally for a one minute pain rush, some relief afterwards. Gonna give the garlic a try now. Soaking in the ocean provides some relief but short-lived. I am going to be 50 soon, hard to find a place to hide to scratch and not look like a old perv, lol.

Cancer is a disease caused by an abnormal growth of cells, also called malignancy. It is a group of 100 different diseases, and is not contagious. Cancer can be treated through chemotherapy, a treatment of drugs that destroy cancer cells.

What sets it aside from the previous options is the fact that this formulation is safe for use on infants and children. Some babies might develop a similar jock itch around the areas where their skin is covered by a diaper, and this cream works well to reduce the irritation without putting your little one at risk of side effects.

Even when the symptoms disappear, you need to apply cream to your groin area for the amount of time specified on the package. Just like you take antibiotics until all of the medicine is gone, you need to follow the full treatment regimen using your cream.

So far it seems to be healing my jock itch. Give me another month and when I’m sure it has healed completely your product will get an excellent rating. So far I find it much better than the standard products for jock itch found in most drug stores.

The earliest if symptoms to appear, those with jock itch develop redness in the groin, thigh or anal region, and rarely in other skin fold such as elbow crease and back of the knees. The reddened patch may grow over time, often leaving the central region clear with a highly defined, reddish-brown outline. Mostly, the redness tends to spread out if the affected area undergoes further stress with more sweat and friction. It is recommended that to prevent such aggravation, physical activity that affects the region be avoided for a while.

Wearing tight undergarments or athletic supporters, or synthetic clothing increases your risk of picking up infection. This is particularly worrying if you remain in these clothes for extended periods and sweat a lot.

It is the best remedy for itch. It relieves main from burns, rashes and fungal infections. Apply it on the surface and you can see that the infection gets reduced. This is the best cream available here which treats the infections. Some of the antifungal drugs are used in these creams which destroys the fungus. Keep the areas dry so that the healing is faster.

Athlete’s foot is another infection that can be caused by the same fungi that cause jock itch. If you have athlete’s foot, treat it quickly. You can avoid spreading it to your groin area by making sure you don’t use the same towel you use on your feet for your groin.

Oxiconazole is a prescription antifungal cream that is used to treat athlete’s foot, jock itch or ringworm. It works, according to Drugs.com, by preventing the growth of the fungus. This drug should be used as directed and should only be applied to the affected area after it has been washed and dried thoroughly.

For these reasons, several plants have been investigated for treatment of skin diseases ranging from itching to skin cancer, and some these remedies below are perfect examples of how you can get rid of jock itch. (3)

You don’t have to be an athlete or a jock to get jock itch. However, it’s most common in athletes because they sweat more than the average person and often wear sweaty clothing for long periods of time. This can make for the perfect breeding ground for the bacteria that causes this frustrating fungal infection.

I think the trick is to detoxify the yeast from your body. stop eating bread cakes pastries cookies etc. with yeast. replace with lots of green vegetables and drink lots of water. as you purify from the inside your sweat will no longer contain food for the fungus. please let me know if u had success this way.

Treatment for fungal infections and jock itch is s simple. Clean the area with shampoos or medicated soaps and apply the cream twice a day. This would reduce the infection. This cream is a very trusted medicine for years. It helps controlling the infection. When you wonder what cream is good for jock itch, this would be a suitable answer.

Ultra Cream? It has a nice ring to it. Before we even took a look at this one, we were set to feel some ultra comfort. As the name suggests, this is a cream based product. It’s active ingredient is Butenafine Hydrochloride Cream 1%. The first thing we like about this product is that is intended to used only once daily. This means you won’t have to worry about having your hands down your pants all day!

I am broke out with this in my private area and spot on my wrist and on my leg close to my knee why do I have it on open spots like my leg and wrist if its cause from closed moist areas im wantin to know all there is bout wth this is and how to get rid of it and not get it again please help anyone feel free to comment what u know

If you’re suffering from jock itch, it is important to treat it as soon as you can, so you stop it spreading to other parts of your body prevent it from getting worse. You will need to use an anti-fungal product to effectively treat your infection. Many of the Canesten products will also help relieve your uncomfortable symptoms.

What could I be doing wrong? Underwear? What is the better type to wear, speedo type or boxer or something else? Clothing used during gym? I always wear polyshorts (new one every day obviously). Could this be the problem?

Use an anti-fungal cream for a mild infection. Your best options include Lamisil, Lotrimin Ultra, and/or Naftin. These are more expensive, but they will get rid of jock itch faster. Prefer Lotrimin Ultra which contains Butenafine Hydrochloride over regular Lotrimin AF which just contains clotrimazole. Studies have shown Butenafine can be faster and more effective than clotrimazole. Furthermore, generic clotrimazole can be purchased for as low as a dollar a tube whereas regular Lotrimin AF (containing clotrimazole) can retail for up to 10 times that amount.

This triple action treatment is an anti-fungal and an anti-bacterial cream, plus it has anti-inflammatory properties to treat your athlete’s foot. It is the only you can buy that is formulated with a combination of clotrimazole and hydrocortisone.

Despite the fact that jock itch can be extremely unpleasant due to the high levels of discomfort and embarrassment that it causes, the condition is not really very serious and can be treated quite effectively with over the counter ointments, creams and powders. Using a jock itch home remedy like vinegar soaks, baking soda, or tea tree oil may offer some relief and could even help cure the condition but there is no scientific validation for most of these claims. The most important aspect of jock itch treatment for both men and women has little to do with home remedies, but more to do with self care at home. Personal hygiene is of the utmost importance not just to cure the condition but also to prevent spreading it as most fungal skin infections like jock itch are contagious.

Antifungal creams and powders such as clotrimazole* or miconazole, available without prescription at the pharmacy, are effective against most dermatophytes. It’s important to continue use after the infection has disappeared for as long as the instructions recommend.

An infrequent complication can arise if jock itch rash spreads past the groin onto the thighs and genitals. Secondly, scratching or rubbing of the skin can deepen the infection causing cellulitis or abscess formation.

Tinea cruris, most commonly known as jock itch, is a fungal infection of the skin. It belongs to a group of fungal skin infections called tinea. Like other tinea infections, jock itch is caused by mold-like fungi, which are known as dermatophytes. These microscopic fungi naturally live on the skin as well as on the hair and nails. They’re typically harmless, but they can multiply quickly and cause infections when they’re allowed to thrive in warm, moist areas. This is why jock itch usually develops in the skin around the groin, inner thighs, and buttocks.

A combined anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory treatment for jock itch to attack the cause of the infection and soothe the associated itch, inflammation, pain and redness. Apply twice a day for no more than 7 days, followed by an anti-fungal cream for 14 days, such as Canesten Clotrimazole, to complete the treatment and avoid recurrence.

In most cases, jock itch treatment involves keeping the affected area clean and dry and applying topical antifungal creams and sprays that can be bought in a pharmacy. However, prescription antifungal creams are sometimes necessary. During treatment:

The fungus that causes jock itch thrives in warm, moist areas and occurs mostly in adult men and teenage boys. It can be triggered by friction from clothes and prolonged wetness in the groin area, such as from sweating. Is jock itch contagious? Technically yes, as it can be passed from one person to the next by direct skin-to-skin contact or contact with unwashed clothing, such as bathing suits, that have been touched or shared. If you have athlete’s foot, it can even be passed by touching your own feet or socks, then touching your groin area.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Kashmir in India reports that natural remedies from plants are gaining popularity because of these obvious advantages in addition to having fewer side effects, helping patients tolerate them far better than synthetics. Natural remedies from plants are becoming far more acceptable due to a long history of use.

If the inflammation persists for much more than 2 or 3 weeks despite antifungal medication, see a doctor. The doctor may prescribe a different antifungal cream or possibly an antifungal medication taken by mouth to treat the infection.

Home remedies for jock itch relief and over the counter medicated products like soothing antifungal creams or antifungal jock itch powders can help provide considerable relief and are an important aspect of treatment because the intense itching can cause you to give in to the urge to scratch at the skin. Scratching can cause severe bruising and in the affected skin allowing for infections, sores and ulcers to develop. If your jock itch is very mild or you’ve caught it early on, you might be able to treat it by washing the affected area twice a day withan antifungal shampoo or soap like Selsun Blue or the delightfully-named Funga Soap. The condition begins with an itchy area of redness in a skin fold. The area may enlarge in no particular pattern. The rash appears as raised red plaques (platelike areas) with sharp borders. The border may exhibit tiny pimples or even pustules with central areas that are reddish and dry with small scales. If you become infected with yeast organisms, the rash tends to be redder and moist. The skin of the tip of the penis may be involved, whereas other organisms spare the male genitalia. Women who also have vaginal yeast infection experience vaginal itching and white, thick, cottage cheese-like discharge. Raised rashes that tend to clear in the center. The elevated, well-demarcated, and ring-like nature of this rash helps differentiate jock itch from other skin problems. The rash may become dry and scaly at times or, less commonly, develop into oozing and crusting blisters. However, it is more common in men. Other factors that increase the risk of developing this problem are being overweight, wearing tight underwear, excessive sweating and having a weakened immune system. Jock itch may be associated with athlete's foot, also called tinea pedis. The same fungus that causes athlete's foot in a person may actually spread to the groin in some cases. It is important to always check the feet for rashes in people with jock itch. Spread of the fungus usually occurs when fungal particles pass onto the crotch while putting on underwear. Any foot infection must be treated in order to avoid recurrence of the jock itch. This site offers information designed for educational purposes only. If you have any concerns or questions about your health, you should always consult with a physician or other health-care professional. Wash your groin daily, and dry the area thoroughly: This is probably the most important step you can take to keep your groin healthy. Dr Pang explains: “Fungi thrive in warm, moist and airless areas of the body like your groin. By keeping it dry, you’re preventing the fungi from multiplying and causing an infection.” Now add some TEA TREE OIL, I Do about 30 Drops to 1 Cup of Oil. You can do More or Less. Essential oils are powerful and you need to consider that when adding to your infused oil. You can always add some more drops, but you can not take away from your mixture. Then, I add some Vitamin E, Some Carrot Seed Oil and some Rosehip Oil. I blend well. I’ve had jock itch/athletes foot fungus since 1992. Nothing has ever worked other than a short term cure. I’m now 60 years old. As I sleep I scratch and spread it all over my body. I am covered from head to toe with it. I live in Arizona and it’s heating up here. Last night my rectum was itching and in my sleep I spread it everywhere. Today it is flared up even on my head, my ears, and every part of my body. An athlete's foot infection can also cause jock itch, if the same towel is used to dry feet and then the groin area. People with compromised immune system (HIV/AIDS, cancer), serious health issues (diabetes, obesity), and other predisposing skin conditions (eczema) are more prone to jock itch. Jock itch can be triggered by friction from clothes and prolonged moistness in the groin area, such as from sweating. A fungal infection of the feet can spread to the groin area by pulling up pants if the waistband gets contaminated with fungus from the feet. I found the perfect cure. First off, don’t waste any money on OTC creams. None of them including Tinactin or Lomitrin work. Maybe in very early stages, but the JI will only come back worse than before you used an OTC cream. This can be a relaxing way to achieve relief and healing. Add two cups of oatmeal and one cup of Epsom salt to a bath tub filled with warm water. Soak your body in the tub for about 20 minutes. Make sure the water is not too hot since hot water can cause itchy skin and you want to avoid further irritation. As a bonus for some added healing and relaxation, you can add 10–20 drops of lavender oil! (7)

Prescription topical antifungals may be more effective for resistant or recurring jock itch infections. Econazole is available with a prescription in cream formulation, while oxiconazole is available in both cream and lotion forms. Both medications have been shown to be effective in the treatment of a variety of fungal infections that may cause symptoms of jock itch or fungal groin infection, including some infections that are resistant to over-the-counter medications. Most patients using topical antifungal treatment report few side effects other than complaints related to the infection.

Credit: Amazon.comA number have people have told me over the years that combining with a hydrocortizone cream is a good bet. This is because the hydrocortizone cream can relieve the itching sensation faster than the anti-fungal cream. This cream is clinically proven to moisturize for 24 hours.

Give your skin a soothing balm of relief with products from our Jock Itch Treatments category. Each treatment is specially formulated to target symptoms of redness, itching, or irritation, and reduce the risk of recurrence.

Although jock itch can affect anyone it is more common among men than in women. It should also be pointed out that jock itch can infect absolutely anyone irrespective of your general health and well being, but patients suffering from diabetes or obesity may be more at risk of infections.

Safe to use, relief of itch within a week but you have to continue the ointment for not less than a month to completely eradicate the fungus from the skin. This will help keep the infection from coming back.

A doctor can often diagnose jock itch just by looking at it and asking about symptoms and a person’s lifestyle. Sometimes the doctor will scrape off a small sample of the flaky infected skin to look at under a microscope or to test in a laboratory.

They work well, although I have chronic jock itch (I don’t really think it’s acute). When I put on the Terrasil it’s almost impossible not to scratch some; but I do like the product and once it’s on it pretty much controls the itch(like right now for instance.

For that reason, many individuals have chosen to use natural alternatives which are organic products that combine naturally-derived ingredients for safer use. Although these might take more time to generate positive outcomes, they are much less likely to cause the side-effects and adverse reactions caused by synthetic alternatives.

Natural Alternatives. Medicated creams are often the most effective for resolving jock itch. These products contain ample dosages of chemically-based active ingredients that are tested and developed in labs and clinics for maximum efficacy.

1st before shower, take borax and put in a container to mix, the glad container works fine, just make sure it’s big enough for the next steps, I go by feel so I don’t have measurements but you don’t need a lot – depending on the area a handfull of Borax or so should do just fine. Again I go by feel for the next step – about a quarter sized or so amount add Selsun Blue Shampoo – Use the name brand and a splash of hot water. Now Mix until you get the consistency of a Meringue (lemon meringue pie) *Caution, when you mix it it has an amonia smell so I’m not sure with the chemical consistency if I am mixing an amonia base type paste, it will sting a little so if you are sensitive and low pain tolorence or sensitive skin I advise caution ( i put caution to the wind with this, as anyone is suffering knows). Leave on for 3 – 5 minutes – make sure you have a towel underneath or stand in the tub it is grainy and will flake off. Lightly massage onto the problem areas – If it’s blistered or opened I wouldn’t massage it I would let it rinse off without scrubbing. – again it will sting a litttle for a while. Now shower as usual. Out of the shower towel off then grab the Hair dryer and dry all the parts front and back – as much heat and air as you can take – be careful not to burn. 2nd step after you are completely dry – ORGANIC Apple Cider Vinegar add a splash of hot water or more – this will sting as well – do not put on stright – strength to what you can tolerate. Again make sure you have a towel underneath or in the tub and open a window – you’ll know why if you try this – dab on with cotton balls to the affected area(s) and let it dry – do not dry it off. The smell on your “parts” will dissipate – keep in mind if you are only 5 mins from work give it about 20 mins for the smell to go away.

Here is some information that might help. I make homemade from scratch items to sell. I am not here to sell anything, but to offer some OTHER suggestions that MIGHT help. I am currently treating/helping somebody with jock itch issues and I have made an oil blend that seems to be helping. First, read this:

Find the correct fit. Make sure your clothes fit correctly, especially underwear, athletic supporters and sports uniforms. Avoid tightfitting clothes, which can rub and chafe your skin and make you more susceptible to jock itch. Try wearing boxer shorts rather than briefs.

A tinea cruris infection brings with it a painful, itchy rash with red, irritated skin and in some cases presents with scaly, bumpy skin. Many factors can lead to jock itch, and once infected, it can be a stubborn skin issue to heal.

“jock itch on hands what causes a jock itch”

There are lots of good over-the-counter products designed specifically for jock itch, so in many cases you won’t even need to go to the doctor. Read on to learn how you can beat jock itch quickly, cheaply, and discretely.

It is the safest cream available. This is the best jock itch cream in India online. The prices are very reasonable. It provides instant relief. It is the most effective way of treating itches. You can buy online. Apply as per the instruction given on the tube. Keep the area dry. Wear washed inner wears. You can get away with the rash within no time.

In most cases, jock itch treatment involves keeping the affected area clean and dry and applying topical antifungal creams and sprays that can be bought in a pharmacy. However, prescription antifungal creams are sometimes necessary. During treatment:

Miconazole is a cream available over-the-counter and can relieve the symptoms of jock itch infection, including itching, scaling or burning. The ingredients in the creme kill the fungus. Drugs.com explains that the cream weakens the cell membrane of the fungus, which leads to its death. The cell membrane is what holds the cell together and allows it to function. Like other over-the-counter antifungal creams, miconazole should be used as directed. If the infection does not disappear after four weeks, medical treatment is necessary.

You can usually self-diagnose itch by how your skin looks.

HI Guyz… Recently i have seen this home made remedies 3 days ago and i used the GARLIC method it is awesome and i was suffering from Jock itch since 2 years and now i am feeling very relief , for any one to suggest this method is awesome and it works really great.

Use antifungal cream. Twice daily, apply a light layer of an antifungal compound (such as clotrimazole), available without a prescription in any pharmacy. You should see results in three to five days. Continue to use the medication an additional one to two weeks after the rash has cleared up to make sure the fungus doesn’t return.

Jock itch, medically known as tinea cruris, is a fungal infection caused by the fungus trichophyton rubrum. Jock itch affects both men and women and commonly occurs on the groin, buttocks, genital area and inner thighs.

An infrequent complication can arise if jock itch rash spreads past the groin onto the thighs and genitals. Secondly, scratching or rubbing of the skin can deepen the infection causing cellulitis or abscess formation.

I have asked about jock itch before and you were (I think it was you) very informative. I have just gone through a bunch of the articles on the site again, but I would still like to ask a question if you don’t mind.

While jock itch is typically very responsive to treatment, occasionally complications may result, such as permanent change to the skin color, secondary bacterial infection requiring use of antibiotics or potential side effects from the medications.[6]

The term “jock itch” may give the false impression that only athletes develop this infection, but it can affect anyone. Jock itch is actually a fungus called tinea cruris, which is part of the fungi in the ringworm and athlete’s foot family. This fungal infection involves the outer layers of skin in the groin area of the body. Fungi come in many forms and exist in many places. In the case of this particular fungus, it grows best in warm, moist areas of the body such as the groin, inner thigh and buttocks.

Yes. Jock itch can spread from one person to another by skin-to-skin contact, especially in warm, damp environments. It can also spread to other areas of the body if someone touches the affected area and touches other body parts. Jock itch often spreads from a fungal infection on the feet, known as athlete’s foot.

What’s more, the excess sweat in the region could wipe out the product, necessitating multiple applications every few hours. Generally, thicker balms and creams are much more ideal for longer lasting effects. However, watery formulations can be effective as long as they’re easily absorbed into the skin.

While it isn’t the most appealing topic, jock itch is rather common. In fact, studies show that about 10 percent to 20 percent of the world population is affected by fungal skin infections! It’s important to note that candida symptoms can be similar to or even trigger jock itch.

I put some listerine in a dollar store glass bowl dipped cotton balls in . In circular motions I rubbed lightly and squeezed the liquid all over itch areas and even on skin next to itch about 1/4 inch away . To make sure it did not spread itch further .. after applying it will burn let it continue till relief starts .. I took a Hamid dryer put it on cool or stood in front of a fan till dry … left me sticky but I’d rather be sticky then itchy …do it for at least 3 weeks or longer if you want to be positive its gone .. after treatment throw away the glass bowlused for dipping ….. good luck all hope this helps

Im sure he ment if he didn’t havd cotton balls; if both of you read the main article. So maybe yall both need glasses and cut back on drinking and check your brains. Besids that… i believe i feel it working now it was driving me crazy for some time. I stay clean, but the body gets warm and moist allowing it thrive. Better educated thanks!

I’m sure your product is a good one, however, it did nothing at all to help my jock itch problem. I used it as directed and received minimal temporary relief. The container is gone and the problem still exists.

What could I be doing wrong? Underwear? What is the better type to wear, speedo type or boxer or something else? Clothing used during gym? I always wear polyshorts (new one every day obviously). Could this be the problem?

Keep in mind that itching and rashes in the groin area and especially on the genitals may be the result of something requiring medical attention, such as a yeast infection or sexually transmitted infection (STI). Moist and warm areas of body like genitals, buttocks, inner thighs and so on may develop red, itchy, ring-shaped rashes. As the time passes these rashes become more severe and may result in breakdown of the skin.

Jenn I also am a woman and have had severe jock itch for 24 years. I have been to many doctors and dermatologists. I have spent a thousands of dollars on tests and oral meds. My body is now amune to everything. I am anxious to try some of these ideas.

Good Luck !

While there are a variety of commercially made, synthetic lotions and sprays that you can purchase, natural remedies from plants can be just as effective due to their antifungal qualities. Plus, they cost way less and provide a chemical-free approach to healing.

The doctor will take your medical history and give you a physical examination. In most cases, the doctor will begin treatment on a trial basis. If the diagnosis remains in question or the rash does not respond to the initial treatment, the doctor will perform laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis.

A KOH exam is when a health care provider scrapes the problem area of your skin, using a blunt edge, such as the edge of a microscope slide. The scrapings from the skin are placed in liquid containing the chemical potassium hydroxide (KOH). The liquid is examined under the microscope. KOH destroys all non-fungal cells. This makes it easier to see if there is any fungus present.

Jock itch a very common problem among athletes and people who regularly engage in physical activity. The best remedy is prevention, which is possible with proper hygiene and carefully avoiding touching infected areas.

The term “ringworm” or “ringworms” refers to fungal infections that are on the surface of the skin. A physical examination of the affected skin, evaluation of skin scrapings under the microscope, and culture tests can help doctors make the appropriate distinctions. A proper diagnosis is essential to successful treatment. Among the different types of ringworm are the following: tinea barbae, tinea capitis, tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea faciei, tinea manus, tinea pedis, and tinea unguium.

So, jock itch, a fungal infection. Quite harmless, a bit of a nuisance certainly. Relatively easy to treat, generally with over the counter preparations. As always, if symptoms do persist for more than two or three weeks, worth going along and having a chat with your GP.

Tinea cruris, also known as crotch itch, crotch rot, Dhobi itch, eczema marginatum,[1] gym itch,[1] jock itch, jock rot, scrot rot and ringworm of the groin[1][2]:303 is a dermatophyte fungal infection of the groin region in any sex,[3] though more often seen in males.

Antifungal creams and powders such as clotrimazole* or miconazole, available without prescription at the pharmacy, are effective against most dermatophytes. It’s important to continue use after the infection has disappeared for as long as the instructions recommend.

Treatment is generally OTC medications. A man can contract a yeast infection from his female sexual partner. Symptoms of a yeast infection in men include penile itching. Treatment is with oral or topical medication.

For that reason, many individuals have chosen to use natural alternatives which are organic products that combine naturally-derived ingredients for safer use. Although these might take more time to generate positive outcomes, they are much less likely to cause the side-effects and adverse reactions caused by synthetic alternatives.

This is specifically for the busty ladies out there. I live in Florida and do yard work for a living, not to mention I exercise outside, so I get a rather bad rash beneath and between my breasts in the summer months quite frequently. I have found that changing to clean bras every day helps, but once you’ve got it, regular apple cider vinegar works great. My grandmother (also busty) has used it for her entire life and it works in one or two days. Yes, it burns, but the momentary pain is worth it. Aloe (we cut it from our plant but they sell it at drugstores) helps cool the burning itch after you’ve used the vinegar. I put on the aloe at days end, after bathing and wiping the area with the vinegar and when I’m able to lie down and allow the affected flesh exposure to the air to dry. I’m sure this method would work on other infected areas as well. And don’t scrhand! If you must, gently rub the itchiness away with the flat of your hand. Good luck y’all.

While it does contain just the same amount of clotrimazole as the previous product, it’s specially formulated with several other inactive ingredients to address more serious cases of jock itch irritation.

Jock itch is the common name for tinea cruris, a fungal infection of the skin of the inner thighs, buttocks and genitals, according to MayoClinic.com. This infection is most likely to occur in people who have moisture on the thighs, such as that caused by sweating. Symptoms of jock itch include redness, itching and a ring-shaped rash. Several over-the-counter and prescription topical antifungal medications are available to treat jock itch.

Bleach is listed here. Bleach removes fungus and mold but also promotes it’s later development. I had jock itch on and off for years until I stopped using bleach in my wash. Once I stopped using bleach it never returned. Fungus thrives in high PH environments caused by Bases like bleach. My jock itch returned for a short time when my wife used bleach again. If you must use bleach you should neutralize it with a post acid rinse like vinegar or lemon juice. Both may be hard on your fabrics and it’s probably best to use neither.

In most cases, your best best is to treat the infection with a combination of antifungal shampoo and antifungal product containing stuff like tolfnaftate, terbinafine, or clotrimazole. These are the active ingredients in products like Tinactin or Lotrimin. Generic versions of these drugs are much cheaper and work just as well.

Keep in mind that itching and rashes in the groin area and especially on the genitals may be the result of something requiring medical attention, such as a yeast infection or sexually transmitted infection (STI). Consult a health care provider for a correct diagnosis because treatments will vary depending on what you have. Having said that, the symptoms of jock itch are:

Find the correct fit. Make sure your clothes fit correctly, especially underwear, athletic supporters and sports uniforms. Avoid tightfitting clothes, which can rub and chafe your skin and make you more susceptible to jock itch. Try wearing boxer shorts rather than briefs.

Prescription topical antifungal medications may come in the form of a cream, powder, gel, or spray for application to the skin. Some topical therapies are available over the counter. Miconazole (Micatin, Monistat Derm), tolnaftate (Aftate, Ting, Tinactin), clotrimazole (Lotrimin, Mycelex), and terbinafine (Lamisil) are some examples and probably are as effective as the medications available by prescription.
