Tinea cruris, most commonly known as jock itch, is a fungal infection of the skin. It belongs to a group of fungal skin infections called tinea. Like other tinea infections, jock itch is caused by mold-like fungi, which are known as dermatophytes. These microscopic fungi naturally live on the skin as well as on the hair and nails. They’re typically harmless, but they can multiply quickly and cause infections when they’re allowed to thrive in warm, moist areas. This is why jock itch usually develops in the skin around the groin, inner thighs, and buttocks.

Medical professionals recommend a preventative based approach of stopping fungus before it occurs. Prevention is preferable over a reactive treatment approach. The preventative based approach involves removing heat and moisture to the groin area.[7]

I put some listerine in a dollar store glass bowl dipped cotton balls in . In circular motions I rubbed lightly and squeezed the liquid all over itch areas and even on skin next to itch about 1/4 inch away . To make sure it did not spread itch further .. after applying it will burn let it continue till relief starts .. I took a Hamid dryer put it on cool or stood in front of a fan till dry … left me sticky but I’d rather be sticky then itchy …do it for at least 3 weeks or longer if you want to be positive its gone .. after treatment throw away the glass bowlused for dipping ….. good luck all hope this helps

It can equally affect both men and women; however, men are more likely to experience than women. While it can bring on a tad bit of embarrassment, jock itch is something that many people experience throughout a lifetime and usually it affects the buttocks area, groin and inner thighs, and even the genital region depending on the severity of the condition. Follow up with an Aloe Vera Gel (like CVS after sun aloe vera gel) to heal it. Then go on the Atkins diet and quit eating sugar and flour.

There are many treatment options and skin care recipes for treating jock itch. Since the two primary causes of jock itch are excess moisture and fungal infections, treatment depends on the exact cause of the jock itch. Treatment of jock itch associated with skin irritation and excess moisture should address general measures to keep the groin clean and dry along with the use of zinc oxide ointment. Treatment of fungal jock itch should include antifungal creams used continuously for two to four weeks. Clotrimazole cream is an effective treatment for both dermatophyte molds and Candida (yeast) and can be purchased without a prescription.

Complications are infrequent since jock itch is usually a self-limited skin condition. Rarely, the rash may spread past the groin onto the thighs and genitals. Secondary skin infections from scratching or rubbing can uncommonly deepen, causing cellulitis or abscess formation.

Also, I use Johnson & Johnson’s Antibacterial powder all over my “lies” (afrikaans) area to help keep it dry.

This fungus mainly grows in warm and moist part of the body. Jock itch is also known as tinea cruis. It causes a lot of discomfort but is not a serious infection. It is more common in men than in women. Overweight and profusely sweating people can also get infected.

This skin condition is called “jock itch” because it commonly occurs in male athletes. However, it also affects people who are overweight, diabetic, or have a weakened immune system. Young, healthy individuals and women may also be affected.

Wash and thoroughly dry the affected area, especially after workouts. Clean the area using mild soap and warm water. Hydrogen peroxide is not recommended because it can irritate and worsen the infection. Use drying powders if excessive perspiration is an issue.

Candidiasis (yeast infection – a kind of fungal infection): “Both men and women can be infected,” says Dr Pang. In women the infection may also involve the vagina, causing a profuse cheese-like discharge associated with burning or an intense itch. In men, it may be associated with infection of the glans penis which may be the first sign of diabetes mellitus.

ok so i tried the listerine and worked alittle it actually stop a infected area and got away but just alittle the proble is that it gives you more ichines i think and i dont like that because you scratch and than you apply again and hearts so bad. now im going to try the honey with garlic and see what happens.

A doctor can often diagnose jock itch just by looking at it and asking about symptoms and a person’s lifestyle. Sometimes the doctor will scrape off a small sample of the flaky infected skin to look at under a microscope or to test in a laboratory.

Aloe vera is one of the best natural remedies to treat any skin infection. The University of Maryland Medical Center reports that aloe vera also has antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antibacterial properties that may reduce your discomfort.

I did so, but have since then had re-occurence like three or four times. Last night I felt this stupid itch again, and looked again, and yep, it’s back! One thing that I have been doing for the last 3 odd months, is to spray my feet every morning with Mycota foot spray to make sure that it doesn’t spread from my feet as I go to gym around 3-4 times a week. Also, I use Johnson & Johnson’s Antibacterial powder all over my “lies” (afrikaans) area to help keep it dry.

The best creams for Jock Itch can certainly help the medical condition go away quicker. This condition is also known as Tinea Cruris, gym itch or fungal infection, and is definitely a condition that you need to treat with the best creams or powders. This fungal infection is most common in males that exercise or play sports, and the symptoms are a red rash, itching and burning. Tinea Cruris can be very discomforting and if you don’t get the proper treatment it can take months for the rash to go away. Here I will offer the best products to use for it and some tips for cures.

Wash the affected area with an antifungal soap. Dry it well with a separate towel, if it does not dry well, use either a blower or a fan. Apply pure honey on the area. Let it dry for about 30 mins to an hour. Wash it off again using antifungal soap. Dry it well and apply antifungal power over the affected area. Wear a loose pure cotton shorts. when it itchs only makes it worse so wash it off immediately to avoid itching. Repeat the procedure whenever it itch. Thanks for this site. Let us keep on posting our experiences for the future to be affected jock itch people lol. I wish this annoying disease disappear forever.

“is jock itch contagious sexually +fastest way to get rid of jock itch”

Jock itch is caused by a fungus. Fungi commonly grow on or in the top layer of skin. They may or may not cause an infection. Fungi grow best in warm, moist areas of the body such as the groin, inner thighs, and buttocks.

Jock itch is often associated with heavy sweating, tight clothing, and frequent friction or direct rubbing of skin against skin. Fungal infection and rashes may also affect any area where skin overlaps, like under large breasts or the armpits.

Treatment of fungal-related jock itch may include one or a combination of antifungal creams and, rarely, antifungal pills. Treatment of jock itch that is not caused by fungus involves proper groin hygiene, keeping the area clean and dry, and washing frequently with gentle soap and water (especially after sweating or exercise).

Prescription topical antifungal medications may come in the form of a cream, powder, gel, or spray for application to the skin. Some topical therapies are available over the counter. Miconazole (Micatin, Monistat Derm), tolnaftate (Aftate, Ting, Tinactin), clotrimazole (Lotrimin, Mycelex), and terbinafine (Lamisil) are some examples and probably are as effective as the medications available by prescription.

im having a hard tym getting to sleep because of this jack itch…I already shaved so that my anti fungal cream would be spread evenly,,i have washed several times, dry then put on cream again but the itch is still there,,,what should I do now,its 2:10 am I want to sleep but I cant….pls help

Over-the-counter antifungal creams can usually treat jock itch. Creams or lotions work better on jock itch than sprays. In severe or persistent cases, your doctor may prescribe stronger creams or oral medication. Use your prescription for the entire time that your doctor recommends. This will help prevent re-occurrence of the rash. If your rash does not resolve within a month of treatment, contact your doctor.

This time I saw a different GP whom had a look, and confirmed that it looked like jock itch, but the Travocort apparently was totally wrong treatment prescribed. The other problem is that she said it actually thins the skin if used too long. She advised me to use a much cheaper cream, Lamisil which worked wonders and sorted out me problem. She told me to make sure that my clothes and affected areas are always spotlessly clean to prevent recurrence.

Do you think that it’s possible to leave a comment and not use that type of language. I mean get real dude, there’s enough stuff online without having to come on and read comments with words like that in them.

Intimate contact or contact with objects that harbor fungus can contaminate the groin skin. The fungus is spread by contact with the spores, which may survive on dead skin cells or objects for a long time.

Comment on the article – Thank you. I used the apple cider vinegar and epsom salt treatments. I’ve had a JI problem for 5 years now. Over the last 4 days of treatment, my skin is feeling better. The itch has subsided. After a long bath soaking in epsom salt, I rub additional epsom salt in the groin area (it hurt bad the first 3 days but not anymore). After rinsing and drying off, I use cotton balls and straight apple cider vinegar (that hurt real bad the first 3 days too). I’m happy to report my JI problem is getting better. Skin rash is getting smaller. It doesn’t hurt or itch as much. I’m optimistic. And thank you for the article. Since my JI problem is chronic, I figure I’ll continue using the same treatments as a preventative.

Scientifically known as tinea cruris, the jock itch is a common skin irritation caused by a fungal or bacterial infection. Characterized by itching, redness, dryness, and the appearance of ring-shaped rashes, this skin condition occurs in people who sweat profusely along the groin and inner thighs.

Very, very similar to athlete’s foot which is a fungal infection on the foot, particularly between the toes, jock itch is a fungal infection at the groin. There are some similar predisposing factors and those ones generally are sweating and heat.

The term “jock itch” may give the impression that only athletes develop the infection, but it can occur in anyone. Those who are overweight are more likely to experience jock itch because the fungus can thrive in folds of skin, which are prone to sweating. As a preventive measure, it’s important to wash with soap and water in your groin and armpit areas daily. Jock itch may also be triggered by prolonged exposure to moisture and friction from clothes.

Some people are simply more prone to developing jock itch because of their overall health, activity, anatomy, possible altered immune status, exposure history, and other predisposing skin conditions like eczema. People with athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) are more prone to developing jock itch.

Microbes such as fungi are responsible for giving birth to fungal infectivity such as jock itch, due to which the elimination of these microbial elements becomes important for the healing process to ensue.

Over-the-counter (OTC) antifungal creams, sprays or powders may solve the problem if it is mild. More serious infections may need prescription medicine, either topical (applied to skin) or in pill form.

Hi, I’m jayee 22 and I really hate Jock itch for I have been suffering now for almost 4-5 months, it’s really embarrassing and can lose confidence. Calendula is a natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. It comes from calendula flowers or marigolds, providing wonderful skin-healing properties. Calendula may be perfect for anyone who has sensitive skin because it’s very soothing and calming. The flowers of marigold have long been employed in folk therapy, and more than 35 properties have been attributed as benefits from the flowers — all of which make it a good option to treat jock itch. Personal hygiene is of the utmost importance as the sharing of personal items like towels or clothing can cause the infection to spread quite easily. Likewise direct physical contact as through sexual intercourse could also lead to infection.

They’re typically harmless, but they can multiply quickly cause infections when they’re allowed to thrive in warm, moist areas. This is why jock itch usually develops in the skin around the groin, inner thighs, and buttocks.

A tinea cruris infection brings with it a painful, itchy rash with red, irritated skin and in some cases presents with scaly, bumpy skin. Many factors can lead to jock itch, and once infected, it can be a stubborn skin issue to heal.

I bought the larger size and found it great to use but not enough. I guess through the heat the jar was less than 3/4 full and I was only able to use it for one week. Great product but by far too expensive.

Jock itch (or tinea cruris) usually causes redness, flakiness, peeling, or cracking of the skin in the groin, thigh, and buttocks area. The rash can look circular, with well-defined or even elevated edges. It can also spread to the area around the anus (where poop comes out). It may itch, sting, or burn, or simply feel uncomfortable.

Jock itch is a common itchy rash on the parts of groin. It is a skin condition which occurs mainly in males associated with the male genitalia. There are several remedies available for such itchy conditions. This is mainly caused due to excess moisture and fungal infections. The treatment for this is application of antifungal creams for few weeks. Here are few itch creams that are used widely.

The rash may become dry, rough, and bumpy, develop pus blisters, or begin to ooze. Sometimes, there is central clearing as the redness of the rash spreads outward to the thighs. The itching and rash can spread to the genitals, including the labia, vagina, scrotum, penis, and anus.

Apply over-the-counter anti-fungal creams or powders recommended for jock itch. Follow the regimen outlined in the accompanying instructions. Be careful not to over-treat the area, as this can lead to further irritation.

As I’ve answered in other post, the better solution is prevention over treatment.  Dry after showers. Most importantly, change your underwear after heavy perspiration activities. To increase breathability and reduce moisture wear linen (flax) underwear.  Only wear synthetic underwear during sports activities, otherwise avoid them as they allow bacteria and fungus to grow.

Keep moist and warm areas of the body clean and dry. Since jock itch is a fungal infection apply any OTC antifungal cream, powder or spray on the infected skin. Change your undergarments daily. You can use antidandruff shampoo on the infected skin. Apply tea tree oil on the infected skin, it is a natural antifungal.

Characterized by itching, redness, dryness, and the appearance of ring-shaped rashes, this skin condition occurs in people who sweat profusely along the groin and inner thighs.

While you are treating the infection, it is important to wash and thoroughly dry the infected area every day. Wear loose fitting clothing, change underwear daily and keep the infected area clean and dry. Make sure to wash your clothes, towels and bed linen frequently during your treatment. Exercising, walking and wearing tight clothing or underwear can make the symptoms of jock itch worse.

Moderate bacterial skin infections may be treated with antibacterial soap and topical antibiotics like metronidazole (Flagyl) or clindamycin lotion. Severe infections may need a 5 to 14-day course of oral antibiotics in addition to antibacterial soaps and lotions. You’ll need to see your doctor to get antibiotics.

I’ve been suffering with jock itch since may! The discomfort is unbareable at times. I’ve been to the doctor and spent a lot of money on creams, nothing is doing the trick. I will try the garlic remedy. Hopefully it works.

Yes. I agree with Jill. I tried many things to cure the rash on my inner thighs and groin area that developed during warm, sweaty weather. Zinc Oxide / diaper rash cream cured it quickly and continues to keep it away. Ignore the nosy checkout clerks and just buy it. Nothing works better.

Tyrone, it sounds like it might just due to jock itch (a superficial fungal infection) and Lamisil® is the correct treatment. I doubt that it is due to dirty underwear, but tight and/or wet underwear might be a contributory factor. You have to make sure you shower as soon as possible after gyming and don’t use the same towel twice (important). You can also try to wear loose underwear, but I doubt that it will make a big difference. Good luck.

You can take Grapeseed Oil or Fractionated Coconut Oil and make an infused oil with Dry or Fresh herbs to start with. I have chosen for the DIY blend I made for my customer Saint John’s Wort and Calendula. Any of the above Herbs as well can possibly be used. Their is directions online for making infused oils over several weeks to several months, or, you can do this the fast and quicker way placing the oil into a glass bowl with the herbs, then placing the bowl into a pan with water about HALF WAY up the sides of the bowl. Simmer the water, gently. Do this for about 3 hours. You can then strain the oil and use it as it is, or RE DO the process using the SAME oil, and adding NEW herbs to it to make a more concentrated Infused Oil. Let cool.

Oil of Oregano is one the most powerful anti bacterial anti fungal herbal supplements on the market, you will need to dilute this and would suggest the Tea tree cream . You will see results but be prepared to feel several minutes of extreme discomfort. I would wash after a few hours of application it will peel the skin. In cases of jock itch or other fungal infections of the groin where symptoms are severe or persistent, oral antifungal medication may be necessary. This is particularly true if the patient is immunocompromised with conditions, such as HIV/AIDs, or is undergoing immunosuppressive treatment, such as chemotherapy or inflammatory disease treatment. The oral formulation of terbinafine is mostly used to treat tinea infections of the nails, but has been used for severe cases of jock itch. Fluconazole has been used as short-term therapy for vaginal yeast infection and as treatment for severe systemic fungal infections, but may be used for jock itch in some patients. Itraconazole, a related anti-fungal medication is used to treat a wide variety of fungal infections, including severe and persistent tinea infections, such as jock itch. Both fluconazole and itraconazole may cause changes in heart functioning, liver or kidney damage and may interact with a number of other medications. The prescribing physician should be made aware of all preexisting health conditions and medications being taken.

We also recommend picking up a good zinc oxide ointment. We’ve found that this can do wonders for itching, chafing, and sweating. We’re partial to a diaper-rash product called Boudreax’s Butt Paste (really) but any decent zinc oxide cream should do.

As the name for this rash implies, symptoms include itching and/or a burning feeling usually in the areas of the groin, thighs, or folds in the skin. It may even involve the genitals. These rashes may appear reddish, tan, or brown, with flaking or cracking skin.

Jock itch is a common fungal infection that creates red, itchy rashes around people’s genitals, buttocks, and inner thighs. Though uncomfortable, jock itch is rarely a serious problem and can be cured using simple home remedies.

Jock itch, also known as tinea cruris, is caused by a fungal infection of the groin. It can affect the skin of your genitals, inner thighs and buttocks. There are several different types of tinea fungal infections, all caused by a type of fungus called dermatophytes. Jock itch is closely related to the fungus that causes athlete’s foot and it is common for people to have both infections at same time.

The fungus that is responsible for jock itch infections which is also one of the most common types of fungal infections and belongs to a group of fungi known as dermatophytes. These fungi are responsible for a variety of common infections like ringworm, athleteÂ’s foot, toenail fungus and so on. Dermatophytes thrive in warm and moist environments, which does explain the susceptibility of specific areas of the body to such fungal infections. The most commonly affected parts of the body therefore are the feet and groin. While conditions like athleteÂ’s foot affect the feet, the groins are afflicted with fungal infections like jock itch.

Jock itch is contagious and is spread either by direct skin contact or by touching contaminated items like clothing or towels. The fungal spores that cause jock itch are very resilient. They can survive for months on your skin or on contaminated items before they get transmitted. The fungus grows best in the warm, moist places, such as the area around your groin. Consequently, jock itch is most common in people who sweat a lot, such as athletes or overweight people. It can also be triggered by friction from your clothing.

Tea tree oil has natural antifungal properties that can effectively treat jock itch along with other types of skin infections. It also has deep cleansing and stimulating elements along with a powerful antibacterial quality. It will also help alleviate itchiness and inflammation associated with jock itch.

It’s important to note that if you have a fungal infection somewhere else on your body, like athlete’s foot or ringworm, be sure to treat it to help prevent the fungus from spreading to your groin area. There are some things you can do to prevent the spread. Make sure you don’t touch or scratch your groin area after touching your feet, for example.

Mouthwash, especially the brands that have alcohol in them, is especially strong at killing germs and bacteria. This is especially true for Listerine brand mouthwash, as this is a brand of mouthwash that has been known to kill off and remedy jock itch. Jock itch occurs as a result of a fungal infection that spreads to particular regions of the body and the mouthwash is capable of killing off some of that infection if the growth is small or in the beginning stages. To effectively treat the jock itch, consider gathering and dampening a cotton ball or swab with the mouthwash. Following this, apply it directly to the skin and to the affected area. Repeat as necessary and up to about four times daily.
